Jose Rivas and UPDATE San Perlita High School

Jose Rivas, a 2007 graduate of San Perlita High School has recieved a $3,000 Dr. Lauro F. Cavazos Tech Prep Scholarship to study criminal justice at UT Brownsville/ Texas Southmost College.

Jose Rivas loves the college setting and UTB has been a good match for him, not too large a school, but with a good reputation in the Law Enforcement field. A professor at UTB helped direct his career in Criminal Justice to the technical side. He now hopes to couple his computer skills with a law Enforcement agency such as the Border Patrol.

2008 UPDATE:
Jose took an entire year of Digital Imaging Technology during his senior year at San Perlita ISD. He started to see immediate benefits from taking tech prep classes. His improved computer skills made it easier to do classroom projects. And his Advanced Design class has prepared him well for the next classes at UTB.

He chose to major in Criminal Justice because “I want to be a part of a change: making our streets safer.”
